Brake pads are a component of disc brakes used in automotive. Brake pads are steel backing plates with friction material bound to the surface that faces the disc brake rotor. Brake pads convert the kinetic energy of the car to thermal energy by friction. Two brake pads are contained in the brake caliper with their friction surfaces facing the rotor. When the brakes are hydraulically applied, the caliper clamps the two pads together into the spinning rotor to slow/stop the vehicle. When a brake pad is heated by contact with a rotor, it transfers small amounts of friction material to the disc, turning it dull gray.

A brake shoe is the part of a braking system which carries the brake lining in the drum brakes used on automobiles. The brake shoe carries the brake lining, which is riveted or glued to the shoe. When the brake is applied, the shoe moves and presses the lining against the inside of the drum. The friction between lining and drum provides the braking effort. Energy is dissipated as heat.

The brake disc is the component of a disc brake against which the brake pads are applied. The material is typically grey iron, a form of cast iron. The design of the disc varies somewhat. Some are simply solid, but others are hollowed out with fins or vanes joining together the disc’s two contact surfaces (usually included as part of a casting process). The weight and power of the vehicle determines the need for ventilated discs and its “ventilated” disc design helps to dissipate the generated heat.

Brake calipers are hydraulic parts that accommodate the pad that will start pressing the disc to produce the stopping power of the vehicle, carry the pad and provide the necessary movement back and forth towards the disc.

It is a part of a brake system that prevents the vehicle from stopping and skidding by slowing the rotation speed of the rear tires by using the method of compression of the drum from the inside out.

The brake booster is a strengthening part that helps to increase the strength of the brake approximately 5 times and softens the brake pedal.

The brake hose delivers brake fluid from the master cylinder to the calipers or wheel cylinders.

It is the part used to prevent damage to the disc surfaces and to control the brake system of the vehicle at all times.
